Science (excerpt)
We are very proud of science awards. Especially if it comes from a very well-known group such as the Standish Group which has been publishing scientific analyses and papers about IT/software projects already for decades.
Currently, it is hard to list all scientific publications, presentations or discussions about Cost Xpert, because of the immense number involved. However, we will list the most important publications very soon.
Cost Xpert is represented as a member in different scientific committees (Universities, IEEE etc.), which are researching on estimation methods for software projects. In addition, we are affiliates of leading universities and scientific institutes, which research on specific methods or models. This refers to research fields of individual methods as well as to general affiliates programs.
Being a General Affiliate with University of Southern California, USC allows us to e.g. implement COCOMO II not only completely, but also extensions and calibrations which are not explained in the specification of COCOMO II itself, but were represented or published later. Professor Barry W. Boehm himself points to the fact that the publication of COCOMO II specification represents a model foundation, that he is continously working on and that he welcomes any kind of extensions or improvements introduced by others.
The discoveries from close co-operation with Professor Barry W. Boehm and his team transfer directly into our services, solutions and our tool. Thereby, we fulfill the requirements to always transfer the most current scientific findings into a measurable customer value. In addition, we are also doing a lot of research on software projects and writing publications as well. Currently, we have integrated numerous unique features and characteristics into our portfolio, which we get from various studies and from the analyses of projects from our customers. This is represented by the development of e.g. domino points (with support by Lotus) or special outsourcing models as enhancement and add-on to COCOMO II.
Substantial contribution to this work was done by our team members of many years such as e.g. PhD. Ray Madachy. He is a co-author of the standard specification to COCOMO II, "SOFTWARE COST ESTIMATION WITH COCOMO II" and collaborated on the book by Professor Barry W. Boehm "SOFTWARE ENGINEERING ECONOMICS". Furthermore, he is a member of the Research Group COCOMO II of the USC-CSE lead by Professor Barry W. Boehm.
In addition, various publications proof our unique expertise in the field of estimation methodologies, models and technologies. Thus, we make a substantial scientific contribution for the advancement of COCOMO II. As the worldwide leading provider of services and solutions in Integrated Methodology driven Estimation of software projects, we certainly offer a unique proposition in this regard as well.
Comments from science:
The Standish Group
"Cost Xpert ... is an easy to use, affordable, PC-based tool to help project manager's jumpstart their project, understand its complexity and mitigate its risk early in the estimating game. It can also be used during project execution to continuously forecast the impact of changes."
"The beauty of this tool is in its simplicity: it provides a simple, easy to use product that's focused on the need for better quality estimates ... Cost Xpert provides a convenient means for estimating project schedule, costs and resources."
"The Standish Group spoke to several government contracted software development and maintenance organizations that used Cost Xpert to calculate development project costs and to track their project effort. These organizations expressed high regard for Cost Xpert as a company and lauded the positive results they obtained in using the Cost Xpert product. The driving force behind their purchase decisions seemed to be the amenities: affordability, availability, and solid support and intuitiveness."
